Help Find a Cure for Parkinson's

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and The Ridge is proudly partnered with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to raise awareness about the disease in our communities and beyond.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation, with the support of scientists around the world, is working to find ways to prevent Parkinson’s, how to detect it early, how to best treat it after a diagnosis – and most importantly, find a cure! We are looking for people to participate in that process.

Scratch. Sniff. Submit.

Age is a risk factor for Parkinson’s disease. So is smell loss. An important research study is exploring this connection. The Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI), sponsored by The Michael J. Fox Foundation, is looking for 100,000 people in the United Sates and Canada who are age 60 and older and without a current Parkinson’s diagnosis to take part in the Smell Test Challenge.

The Ridge’s Salt Lake City-area communities are offering free test kits to those that are willing to participate. Simply stop by The Ridge Cottonwood or The Ridge Foothill and pick up your test to take in the comfort of your own home. By taking part in this simple scratch-and-sniff test, you will be contributing to a major neurological research study that has the potential to one day predict Parkinson’s before it is evident.

If you are interested in participating but unable to come to one of The Ridge’s communities to receive a test, visit MySmellTest.org/TheRidge.
