Our Favorite Seniors on TikTok

If you think social platforms like TikTok are only for millennials and Gen Z, you might be surprised to discover that popular video content is being made and shared by seniors — and “liked” by millions of people of all ages. From sweet and heartening to informative and funny, content made by seniors on TikTok is engaging, diverting, addicting, and definitely worth a look.

New to Tiktok?

If you haven’t yet ventured onto TikTok, your first foray may be as disorienting as Alice’s first moments in Wonderland. Although videos can now be as long as 10 minutes, the majority are between 21 and 34 seconds — short bursts of images and sound that are as varied as their creators. As you get your bearings in TikTok land, you’ll discover that whole conversations are going on as content creators participate in dance challenges, respond to other TikTokers, and take advantage of an array of user-friendly special effects. And seniors have joined the adventure. Here are a few of our favorite seniors on TikTok:

Grandma’s Garden

You don’t have to be a gardener to enjoy the restful nature of this grandma’s videos. Tour her garden, get new recipes, watch her unbox gifts, and just bask in the pleasure of her company.

GrandpaChan

Curious about viral social media dance challenges? Watch the dance moves of Grandpa Chan and his wife, who started their channel to connect with their grandchildren, but in the process have endeared themselves to almost 2 million followers.

Cooking with Lynja

Chaotic, creative and funny, Lynja gives cooking demonstrations in under a minute, packing her short videos with clever editing and lots of humor. Here you can spend 24 seconds with her as she makes a pink drink.

Charlesmallet

Charles Mallet, who has Alzheimer’s disease, shares sweet and poignant videos with the help of family. These gentle videos will warm your heart as they celebrate a long, storied life and the poignant dignity of a man coping with dementia.

Grandmagreat

Need a joke to make you smile or a reminder that kindness really can make a difference? Grandmagreat shares stories, inspiration and laughter with quintessential grandmotherly warmth.

Excusemygrandma

Kim and Grandma Gail, a granddaughter and grandmother twosome, talk about a wide range of topics from dating and fashion to incontinence and how to properly fold pants. Enjoy their warm relationship and amusing attempts to bridge the generation gap.

Erika Rischko 82 yrs old

A self-described fitness junkie, Erika Rischko’s TikToks will inspire you to keep moving. Even just watching her do knee tucks will give you a vicarious sense of accomplishment and strength.
