The Ridge Foothill is celebrating the progress in the effort to eradicate COVID-19 from the community. Leadership is happy to report no new positive cases, and a team member who tested positive for the virus, has returned to work after fully recovering. This has been uplifting news for everyone at The Ridge Foothill.
All affected individuals are asymptomatic and are in quarantine. Fortunately, 77 residents and 43 team members have tested negative. Graciously the health department and state officials have partnered with the community to continue baseline testing for all of the assisted living residents and associates. These tests will be done every 10 days, with results expected by the following Wednesday. The community will communicate results and any other updates on a weekly basis, unless there are significant circumstances to be conveyed.
On Sunday night, the common spaces within the assisted living neighborhood were cleaned by a specialized firm. The Ridge Foothill will continue to take extra precautions and clean throughout the community multiple times a day.
VISITS AND ACTIVITIES: To keep social distancing but remain socially engaged, residents are invited to have closed window visits with family and friends. To schedule a visit or video call at the community, please e-mail Covid19@theridgefoothill.com. The community hopes to resume outdoor visits, group activities and communal dining in the near future.
THANK YOU: A special thank you to the health department who willingly partnered with the community to combat the virus. This testing will ensure residents and team members stay healthy. The comments and gestures of support continue to help as the community manages this challenge one day at a time. Residents and team members are in good spirits and the community is proud of the efforts and vigilance of everyone who has collectively kept them safe. This has truly been a team effort. Following the three previously confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 – one resident and two team members – The Ridge Foothill undertook baseline testing for all assisted living residents and staff. Unfortunately, one additional resident has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to four. All affected individuals are asymptomatic. The residents are under quarantined isolation in their rooms and the team members are recovering at home.
All group activities, communal dining and family visits continue to be prohibited for the foreseeable future for both the assisted living and memory support neighborhoods. The specialized sanitation firm that The Ridge Foothill is partnered with will be on-site tomorrow, July 12, for a thorough cleaning of all common areas and hard surfaces. Fortunately, the community is currently equipped with adequate provisions of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Confirmed as of July 2, 2020, at 4:30 p.m.
We’ve received COVID-19 test results of 23 residents and five team members and are disappointed to report two confirmed cases in our assisted living neighborhood. The two individuals, one team member and one resident, are currently under quarantine. The resident is asymptomatic. These cases are in addition to the confirmed positive case of a team member from last week.
The Ridge Foothill is taking the necessary precautions by contacting family and team members who may have been exposed to the virus. At this time, no other resident or team member has reported COVID-19 symptoms. Due to the recent positive tests, the community will move forward with baseline testing for all of our assisted living residents and team members. These tests will begin today, and we hope to have the results by early next week.
In addition to the testing, the community has made the decision to cancel all group activities, communal dining and discontinue family visits for the foreseeable future for both the assisted living and memory support neighborhoods. The community will conduct routine checks on vitals, implementing extra precautions, and disinfecting the community multiple times a day. To reiterate, the current virus occurrence is only in the assisted living area. The community continues to maintain two separate entrances for team members and have segregated assisted living and memory support, with no cross over of team members or residents between the neighborhoods.
This is not the news that The Ridge Foothill was wanting to report, and the team remains firmly committed to doing all that they can to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone who lives and works at our community. The community will continue to communicate results on Monday.

We are pleased to report that two tests for additional team members have come back negative. The two associates worked with the one team member who tested positive last week. That team member continues to recover at home under quarantine.
As part of our vigilant protocols and routine monitoring, we tested an additional 23 residents and five team members who were potentially exposed. We’re hopeful to have more results by Thursday, July 2, but due to the holiday, we may not receive these until Monday. We continue to conduct routine checks on vitals and, at this time, no other resident or team member has experienced COVID-19 symptoms and we’re cautiously optimistic as we head into the holiday weekend.
On Monday night, a specialized firm was hired to disinfect all hard surfaces in common areas within the Assisted Living neighborhood, and the community has passed all testing. We will continue to take extra precautions and clean throughout the community multiple times a day.
As a reminder, we are still administering COVID-19 precautionary and mitigation efforts (listed below).

Today, The Ridge Foothill is pleased to report an important milestone in managing COVID-19 as three residents are now officially declared as recovered. This is heartwarming news as the community continues to maintain strict precautions and focus on the care and wellbeing of all residents and team members. Results of 20 re-tests conducted yesterday are still pending and are expected later this week.
One question that everyone wants to know is, “When will the community be in the clear?” The health department has stated that residents and staff must have one round of all negative results then wait for 14 days and conduct a second round of tests. If all of those results are negative, then the health department will declare the community clear of COVID-19 activity.
The community is asking families to help with one item to support residents in maintaining the necessary precautions. Many residents are in need of an additional cloth mask instead of relying on, and rewashing, the same mask. Families and friends are encouraged to email Covid19@theridgefoothill.com to coordinate arrangements for delivery of extra masks.

The community also wants to highlight two responsible actions recently taken to reaffirm the integrity of its health and precautionary measures.
- Earlier this month, the community submitted a request to the Utah Occupational Safety and Health Administration (UOSHA) to conduct an inspection of its safety practices. Yesterday, findings from that review were received and the community is pleased to report there were no additional recommendations or requirements relating to COVID-19. They did find two chemical description sheets (MSDS) that needed updating which was completed the same day.
- The Governor has deployed the Utah National Guard to assist with COVID-19 testing and to support organizations and business who need additional support to fight this virus. Upon hearing this news, The Ridge Foothill leadership consulted with local and state health officials. Those officials determined that the community’s precautions, procedures and testing are either beyond, or at, the appropriate levels and do not warrant additional support from the National Guard at this time.
Family members with any questions or concerns are encouraged to email inquiries to Covid19@theridgefoothill.com. Members of the community’s care team will respond at the earliest opportunity. A dedicated family member hotline – 801-921-8962 – is also available exclusively for families to receive updated information. As Memorial Day weekend approaches, Americans who have served the freedom and liberty of our country are honored. During COVID-19, this Memorial Day is also a time to respect loved ones lost and the heroes who are caring for all Americans. This weekend is a time to pause and reflect. So, the community will report significant updates if they occur, and will resume its next daily update on Tuesday, May 26.

In addition to implementing strict guidelines from the CDC, state and local health authorities, The Ridge Foothill has expanded its virus mitigation protocols. Beginning next week, comprehensive retesting of residents who have previously tested negative will be conducted with support from the health department. To complement ongoing sanitation efforts, a specialized firm is on hand to further disinfect all hard surfaces in common areas within the building.
The community is also hiring temporary labor to cover duties on behalf of impacted team members who are recovering at home. Like all permanent staff, these new hires undergo exhaustive background checks in addition to COVID-19 screening. Fortunately, The Ridge Foothill currently has adequate provisions of personal protective equipment (PPE). Given brisk usage and challenges with acquiring and shipping the supplies, the community continually seeks new sources of PPE.
Comfort and support from family is more important than ever and being unable to see loved ones in-person on Mother’s Day will be tough. But patience and cooperation with the community’s strict no visitation policy will help keep everyone safe and healthy. Please call, send cards or flowers, or take part in window visits or car parades to make the day as special as possible.
With today’s sorrowful news, it’s expected to have questions or concerns. Family members are encouraged to email inquiries to Covid19@theridgefoothill.com. Members of the community’s care team will respond at the earliest opportunity. A dedicated family member hotline – 801-921-8962 – is also available exclusively for families to receive updated information.
While saddened, The Ridge Foothill team remains committed to working toward better days ahead. Thank you for your support, prayers and grace during this challenging time.

UPDATE for The Ridge Foothill community
On the evening of April 6, the Salt Lake County Health Department informed us that an Assisted Living team member at The Ridge Foothill tested positive for COVID-19. The employee last worked at the community on April 2 and was not experiencing symptoms at that time. The person is currently recovering at home.
Our top priority during this challenging time is the health and safety of our residents, team members and their loved ones. We continue to administer all extreme precautions as outlined by the CDC and local health authorities to limit the potential spread of COVID-19. We are currently identifying anyone who had in-person contact with the impacted team member and monitoring them for symptoms and putting into place protocols to isolate and eradicate any potential virus. All team members in the community are being screened daily for symptoms and will be wearing masks.
Given the rapidly evolving situation, we continue to closely monitor other residents and team members for symptoms and will share any updates as appropriate.
We encourage you to visit www.facebook.com/theridgeseniorliving for the latest on the ongoing situation. We have also established a hotline number – (801) 921-8962 – exclusively for families to receive updated information. Members of our care team will return calls at the earliest opportunity. Family may also email inquiries to Covid19@theridgefoothill.com.
We thank you for your patience, understanding and support during this challenging period.
Together, we will get through this.
Sincerely,
Bobby Ginn

Dear Residents, Team Member, Families and Friends,
We are now implementing new federal directives aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19 in senior living communities. The Centers for Medicare/Medicare Services (CMS) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has determined that we MUST limit visitors to our assisted living and memory support neighborhoods.
This means:
- We can only allow visitors for essential resident needs and well-being, such as support care and family visit in end-of-life situations.
- If your visit fits that criteria, you will be limited to going directly to your loved-one or clients room and then directly leaving their room and the community at the end of the visit.
- You will need stop at the entrance and complete our screening protocol and you will need to wash your hands with either the provided alcohol-based foam or gel or at a sink as you enter and exit the community. If you answer positive to any of the questions below you will not be admitted to the community under any circumstance.
The questions you will be asked are:
- If you have signs or symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath or sore throat.
- In the last 14 days, you have had contact with someone with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, or under investigation for COVID-19 or are ill with respiratory illness.
- You have had International travel within the last 14 days to countries with sustained community transmission (CDC determined).
- You live in a nursing home where community based COVID-19 is occurring in your county.
- Visitors and team members will be limited to entering the community through one single entrance to ensure we can screen everyone coming into the building. Please be patient at these entrances, we must log the results of all screenings.
- If you do visit today, please report back to us immediately if you develop any signs and symptoms of COVID-19 within 14 days of your visit
- If you’ve been exposed to someone with COVID-19 please stay home, monitor yourself for signs and symptoms for at least 14days.
We know this is discouraging news for you and your loved one/client. The reason these steps are critical is that “social isolation or distancing” is the only proven way to stop the spread of virus in a mass exposure situation such as a pandemic. This is the situation we are in right now.
We will be happy to forward a note or card from you to your loved-on/client. We also will help you connect with your loved-one/client via technology such as FaceTime, Skype or sharing a video that you’ve recorded.
Our team is committed to doing all that we can to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone who lives and works in the community. We appreciate your cooperation and adherence to these new federal directives. Thank you

March 12, 2020 – We are now implementing new federal directives aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19 in senior living communities. The Centers for Medicare/Medicare Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have determined that if a skilled nursing, assisted living or memory support community is in a county that has had a positive case of COVID-19 or operates in a county adjacent to a county that has a positive case of COVID-19, we MUST limit visitors.
What does this mean for The Ridge Senior Living? Residents at The Ridge communities will be allowed visitors for essential needs only, such as support care and family visit in end-of-life situations. Visits must be brief. All visitors will complete our screening protocol, which includes a few questions about their current health, and they will need to wash their hands to enter.
We know this can be discouraging for family members. However, we know this is the only proven way to help stop the spread of the virus. In the meantime, we are happy to forward a note or card to a resident and will help them connect with loved ones via technology like Skype or FaceTime.
Our team is committed to doing all that we can to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone who lives and works in the community.
